An exquisitely chiseled piece of metal.After the demise of the Dodge Magnum, it's refreshing to have a wagon offering from a domestic manufacturer. Fin de SiecleThere's no doubt about it: Even if the '59 Cadillac design had gone no further than the concept stage, it's the poster-child automobile that helped define the jet-age, overstated, overchromed, longer, lower, wider decade that was the 1950s in America. Although when you compare it with the Caddy designs of 1960 and 1961, the 1959's packaging and proportions are really much more of that era (record-setting fins aside). This really struck us when we met Daphne, the resplendent-in-Daphne-Blue '58 Coupe on these pages. This car is almost restrained in its design, even though there's still some gratuitous chrome splashed about. The '58's look and proportions are much more emblematic of other '50s Caddys than the '59. Cadillac's big engineering metamorphosis took place in 1957, with a new tubular X-style frame, and the big news underhood was the all-new, overhead-valve V-8 engine replacing the engine that had bowed in 1949.

The first Lowrider Magazine car of the year.Born in the heart of Los Angeles, Mando Estrada grew up with Lowrider cars constantly cruising in his neighborhood. At the age of 15, he followed suit, often cruising Whittier Blvd with his friends, Reni and Nacho. They used to cruise in Reni's '64 Chevy Impala that was stock green, and had a hydraulic set up that only lifted the front. In '78, Mando joined the Military, much like many young Chicanos who wanted to get out of their neighborhoods. DeMatio hit Omaha Beach with the 118th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, XIX Corps, United States 1st Army. All about the looksThe 2011 Cadillac CTS coupe goes on sale in August 2010, thirty-one long months after a thinly disguised concept-car version of it debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show. The good news is, the CTS coupe's exterior lines look just as good on the road in summer 2010 as they did under the hot lights of the Cadillac stand in January 2008, and there were plenty of heads turning on the streets of Ann Arbor when I drove it. Although this car is a serious performer, I imagine it will be purchased primarily for one reason and one reason only: it looks like a million bucks.
