Miami Flavor In A Super-Sized PackageRed. It's a bold, in-your-face color, not intended for the mild-mannered and shy people on the planet. Driving around in a red truck draws attention and when behind the wheel of a huge Chevy Kodiak C4500, heads snap in double-taking fashion as you cruise by. When Frank the Tank wanted a new daily driver, he combined two forces of nature that would send the streets of Miami into a custom truck frenzy.inline_mediumwraptextright00Left Front Angle30115933/features/1011tr_2008_chevy_kodiak_c45001011tr_01+2008_chevy_kodiak_c4500+left_front_angle.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: 2008 Chevy Kodiak C4500 - 24 Inch Rims - Truckin' Magazine

An S-10 Meant For RompingWe knew there had to be guys out there who were both prerunner enthusiasts and S-10 lovers. We get plenty of letters from people who are wondering how to build their S-10s...but until recently, we didn't have much info for them. 'Turns out we had just been looking in the wrong places. After a Web search led us to the Dezert Dimes forum-frequented by a large number of certified S-10 maniacs with prerunning on the brain-we knew we'd found the right place. In fact, we enlisted their help for our Almighty Dime S-10 project build (you'll see more of that in future issues). After meeting some of the guys, we hit the desert with Bruce Barnes, the owner of a 2000 S-10 built with equal parts fun and reliability in mind.inline_mediumwraptextright0030027079/features/1010or_2000_chevy_s10_2wd1010or_01_+2000_chevy_s10_2wd+left_side_view.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: 2000 Chevy S10 2WD - Dezert Dimes - Off-Road Magazine

A True ZR-2 S-10Regular-cab mini-pickups are great wheeling machines. The small wheelbase makes them great hillclimbers, the bed is perfect for hauling gear, and the single cab offers comfort, simplicity, and excellent visibility. While the rugged little truck platforms seem to be used more for parts-store runners than anything else, a few wheeling enthusiasts see the 4x potential of the light-duty pickups. inline_mediumwraptextright0030242302/featuredvehicles/131_1010_red_rock_pickup_1998_chevy_s_10131_1010_01_o+131_1010_red_rock_pickup_1998_chevy_s_10+front_passenger_side.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: Red Rock Pickup: 1998 Chevy S-10 - 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine

Currie Enterprises' F9 Custom Rears Can Handle Some Serious Power.Since building gratuitous amounts of horsepower is getting easier and easier every day, it's not a far-out thought to have a street car putting out 700 to 1,000hp. With that level of power on tap, all the stuff behind the engine gets put though the proverbial wringer. We are going to run into that exact situation with a car our editor is building.inline_mediumwraptextright00Currie Enterprises34144788/technical/engines_drivetrain/driveshaft_rearend/sucp_1010_currie_f9_rear_endsucp_1010_30+currie_f9_rear_end+currie_enterprises.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: Currie F9 Rear End - Axle Tubes - Super Chevy Magazine

He's been waiting nearly two years to get his car in the magazine. We first saw his Camaro last year at a cruise night at Bob's Big Boy in Burbank, California, where we staked out his car until he returned to it to drive home. After asking several probing questions trying to figure out if the car was legit, we promised to call soon to schedule a photo shoot.inline_mediumwraptextright0028926506/featuredvehicles/ccrp_1010_doug_youngs_1968_chevy_camaroccrp_1010_02_o+doug_youngs_1968_chevy_camaro+383_small_block_engine.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: Doug Young's 1968 Chevy Camaro - Car Craft Magazine

Car Craft cars are rarely about subtlety. And Car Craft people are hardly the shy, retiring type. No accountants driving safe and secure Volvos here. Instead, Mike and Angela's Nova is about as timid as a two-by-four alongside the head.Car Craft cars are rarely about subtlety. And Car Craft people are hardly the shy, retiring type. No accountants driving safe and secure Volvos here. Instead, Mike and Angela's Nova is about as timid as a two-by-four alongside the head. Let's see, an aluminum-headed Rat motor with a Blower Shop 8-71 supercharger sticking through the hood, ladder bars, and big Hoosiers stuffed under stretched rear quarter-panels. Now imagine the Thomas' twin daughters in the back seat, trying to have a conversation over the whine of the blower and a 3-inch Flowmaster exhaust. The girls are probably adept at texting.inline_mediumwraptextright0034372476/featuredvehicles/ccrp_1010_doug_angela_thomas_1966_chevy_ii_novaccrp_1010_02_o+doug_angela_thomas_1966_chevy_ii_nova+rear_view.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: Doug & Angela Thomas' 1966 Chevy II Nova - Car Craft Magazine

To summarize, this article shows the process Westside Performance went through to build a better-performing big-block Chevy that looks like a stock, 325hp 396. Most people building an engine from scratch or freshening up their old one would likely go for bigger displacement, aluminum heads, and so on. But some people want their engine to look as stock as possible, including cast-iron heads and intake, but built to its fullest potential. We can totally respect that, too. Though that particular build won't post the big numbers of an engine built with aftermarket parts, some creative thinking will get better performance than the stock engine could have hoped for.inline_mediumwraptextright0028889417/techarticles/ccrp_1010_396_big_block_chevy_stroker_buildccrp_1010_02_o+396_big_block_chevy_stroker_build+engine_build.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: 396 Big Block Chevy Stroker Build - Car Craft Magazine
