Put up for bid at a local salvage auction, it was damaged on both ends, but a perfect candidate for a little restoration work. Judging by a plaque on the dash, the truck had been built into a street rod of sorts in the early â80s, but lacked a number of modern conveniences typical of builds from that era. Sans wipers, a working heater, and an emergency brake, the truck did have a late model steering column installed that was angled towards the passenger in order to clear the headers. The seat meanwhile was bolted to a piece of plywood that floated around inside the cab. As Rick puts it, there were lots of little issues.inline_mediumwraptextright0034761107/featuredvehicles/1201cct_mercury_pickup_truck1201cct-01-o-+mercury-pickup-truck+front.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: Mercury Pickup Truck - Custom Classic Trucks Magazine

1968 Mercury Cougar - Kathiâs Cool Cat
- 1968 Mercury Cougar - Kathiâs Cool Cat
In honor of his late wife, Elmer Hamme rebuilt this car. This story, like so many others, begins with two people meeting and falling in love. Elmer Hamm of New Carrolton, Maryland, first met his future wife, Kathi, when he caught his cousin skipping school at the local mall. His cousin saw Elmer first and she was trying to hide behind her friend Kathi. Elmer, who was a firefighter at the time, was introduced to Kathi on the spot (probably to try and take some heat off of his cousin). Later, at a firefighting training class, Elmer saw Kathi show up on the arm of another firefighter and he quickly expressed his interest for Kathi to his fellow classmate. The response Elmer received was, in effect, a challenge and before long Elmer had won Kathi's heart and the other firefighter was going home alone. That was 1971, and Elmer and Kathi were married the following year in November. Photo Gallery: 1968 Mercury Cougar - Kathiâs Cool Cat - Modified Mustangs & Fords Magazine

Though not quite an oxymoron, we should preface this story about our â67 Cougar by saying that street friendly is a relative term here.Though not quite an oxymoron, we should preface this story about our â67 Cougar by saying that street friendly is a relative term here. Max Effortâs ethos through and through is pushing a street-legal muscle car as far as possible on the road course, and to make that a reality we need a âcage thatâs designed to function on several levels.inline_mediumwraptextright0034848592/tech/1111phr_1967_mercury_cougar1111phr-01+1967-mercury-cougar+rollcage.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: 1967 Mercury Cougar - Popular Hot Rodding Magazine

Thatâs because up until Zane Cullen at Cotati Speed Shop commissioned Brian Stupski to do renderings of a â50 Merc for customer Knick Jimenez, the phrase didnât even exist. It was Stupski who actually coined the term, which sums up the mixture of traditional custom touches with pro touring hard parts that the Merc will entail.inline_mediumwraptextright0033062369/featuredvehicles/1111rc_1950_mercury1111rc-03+1950-mercurt-metal-majesty+front-angle.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: 1950 Mercury - Metal Majesty - Rod & Custom Magazine

With nearly 12,000 pre-1964 cars and trucks registered, the family oriented event is one of the largest in the nation. The show kicked off on Friday in full force with plenty of happenings for the whole family featuring arts and crafts, music, dancing, food, and, of course, cars. A Mecum auto auction on Friday and Saturday made it possible for those who didnât drive a classic into the show to drive one home. The shindig started early on Sunday with a huge one-day-only swap meet featuring more than 350 vendors stocked full of those hard-to-find items.inline_mediumwraptextright0033385709/eventcoverage/1110cct_msra_38th_annual_show1110cct-03-+msra-38th-annual-show+two-cars.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: MSRA 38th Annual Show - Custom Classic Trucks Magazine

1964 Mercury Comet - B/FX Caliente
- 1964 Mercury Comet - B/FX Caliente
How cool is this thing? We need to get video of it running down the track at 8,000 rpm.Donât call it a gasser. Itâs B/FX. The altered wheelbase, the straight axle, and the lettering all point to what was the original mold for the Funny Car in 1964. Fords were under orders to avoid racing against the big-blockâpowered, altered-wheelbase A/FX Chryslers and went underground with a small-block effort until 1965, when the first SOHC altered-wheelbase Comet appeared with the rear wheels moved forward 10 inches. Daleâs is a version of a small-block, altered-wheelbase class or B/FX car from that era. The bucket seats, the steering wheel, the Ford 9-inch from an early Galaxie instead of a remanufactured one, the Cragars, the real gold leaf in the lettering instead of vinyl, and the hand-lettered characters are all there for a reason. If it says A/FX and has a small-block, or A/G and has an altered wheelbase, itâs not right. Dale made sure his car is a close as possible to what might have been.inline_mediumwraptextright0033899209/featuredvehicles/ccrp_1110_1964_mercury_cometccrp-1110-01-o+1964-mercury-comet+the-rocket.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: 1964 Mercury Comet - Car Craft Magazine
