'10 Engine Swap Drags coverage-not because the car isn't cool or it didn't fit into the rules, but because Mitchell and Brian Miller were thrashing to get the car together in time and didn't make the show. And by thrash, we mean they completed the paint and bodywork and the assembly of the entire car in the two weeks before the event. They fired the car for the first time the morning of the race. That kind of effort always gets you into the magazine.inline_mediumwraptextright0030266995/featuredvehicles/ccrp_1010_mitchell_vannattas_1968_pontiac_firebirdccrp_1010_02_o+mitchell_vannattas_1968_pontiac_firebird+interior.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: Mitchell Vannatta's 1968 Pontiac Firebird - Car Craft Magazine

(DEI), Penske Racing, J.R. Motorsports (Dale Jr.'s organization), and the Roush-Fenway Nationwide series shop. But there's another notable team that races in a straight line-KB Racing, which manages the Summit Racing team cars of three-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson and '06 NHRA Pro Stock champion Jason Line. But behind these famous drivers is a team that is also deep into the car crafting scene. If you twist wrenches for an NHRA Pro Stock team, you probably don't have a Honda sitting in your garage, so we thought we'd see what the guys and women behind the racers drive. It's a garage any good car crafter would love to get lost in. Photo Gallery: KB Racing Team Headquarters - Car Craft Magazine

Steve Wayne's John Wayne-meets-Billy Bob attire belies an inner gentleman in tune with far more sophisticated proclivities. Never mind that he kept restocking his left hand with a steady supply of Bud Light in the 20-minute intervals during our photo shoot. Steve's daily driver is an Aston Martin DB9. He's turned hundreds of road course laps in Vipers and Ferraris. Outside his daily duties as a structural engineer, Steve gets his kicks building high-end street rods and Corvettes out of his house, then pawning them off on dudes too rich and sophisticated for their own good at Barrett-Jackson. It seems quite peculiar, then, that someone with such distinguished tastes should lust over a '76 Trans Am, complete with an obligatory screaming chicken emblazoned on the hood. That's because, like its owner, this Poncho packs more grace and elegance than its outward appearance lets on.inline_mediumwraptextright0028609457/features/1009phr_1976_pontiac_trans_am1009phr_01_o+1976_pontiac_trans_am+front_left.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: 1976 Pontiac Trans Am - Popular Hot Rodding Magazine

Mel Peters' '58 Tri-Power Chieftain Convertible Has Become His Second Wife, According To The First OneSince its birthday on February 13, 1958, this Chieftain has been a very special vehicle. For over 50 years, it has been part of the Peters' family. Back in 1993, Mel acquired-as he puts it-WIFE2 (as his license plate states) from his ailing brother Raymond in Indiana who could no longer care for her properly. Seventeen years, countless cans of WD-40, and about $28,000 later, Mel has this beautiful and relatively rare piece of Pontiac history.inline_mediumwraptextright00Despite it being a recession year, Raymond Peters loaded his Chieftain convertible with factory options and chose a classic color combination: Reef Shell Pink with Ascot Gray coves.28222832/features/hppp_1010_1958_pontiac_chieftain_convertiblehppp_1010_05_o+1958_pontiac_chieftain_convertible+rear_view.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: 1958 Pontiac Chieftain Convertible - Pontiac History - High Performance Pontiac Magazine

Masterpiece Award Lowrider 2010 Hall Of FameHaving always been a fan of Lowriders, Donald Zavala of Lodi, CA wanted to build a different model Lowrider car; something other than an Impala or a Monte Carlo. As a senior in high school in 1981, Donald purchased a '77 Pontiac Grand Prix and got down to business. Thanks to his having attended many car shows in the San Jose, CA area, he got some great ideas for building this Grand Prix into a bonafide showstopper.inline_mediumwraptextright0028621922/features/1010_lrmp_1977_pontiac_grand_prixlrmp_1010_02_o+1977_pontiac_grand_prix+at_car_show.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix - Lowrider 2010 Hall of Fame Masterpiece Award - Lowrider Magazine

1970 LeMans SportWe purchased our LeMans in 1988 after arriving at our new Air Force duty location in Arizona. For $1,000 we bought a straight, rust-free car that was a mechanical mess. We spent the next few years first making it safe, then slightly improving its performance and appearance as time and money allowed.inline_mediumwraptextright0029673208/features/hppp_1010_1970_pontiac_lemans_sporthppp_1010_02_o+1970_pontiac_lemans_sport+side_shot.jpgtrue Photo Gallery: 1970 Pontiac LeMans Sport - Air Force - High Performance Pontiac Magazine
